You might be suffering from anxiety.

Anxiety is a normal experience and truthfully if we didn’t experience anxiety at times we wouldn’t be able to survive. Our ability to survive depends on our fear sensor that alerts us when danger is near. Feeling shaky, noticing an increased heartbeat, shortness of breath, and increased alertness are all aspects of our fight or flight response that is built in to protect us from danger. Learning more about our stress response can help us to recognize anxiety and to understand how to treat it.

How do you know if your anxiety is problematic?

When our anxiety is disturbing to us, is keeping us from living fulfilling lives, or impacting our responsibilities or relationships something needs to change. When our anxiety is present most of the time without a tangible reason for it, this is often a sign that we need to seek out treatment for our anxiety so that it does not escalate.

Typically when we experience anxiety due to danger we are able to settle down once danger has past. However, those who suffer with generalized anxiety will notice the anxiety continues and can sometimes turn into ruminating thoughts, phobias, or overall worry that doesn’t seem to be relieved.

You are not your anxiety

Anxiety doesn’t have to define you or dictate your experience. Slowing down, building internal awareness, and learning to calm your mind can bring you back to you.

WildSense’s approach to anxiety Treatment

Anxiety can be caused by a lot of things and it is not uncommon for anxiety to be a response to trauma. By slowing down, taking deep breaths, and looking at the whole picture we can get a sense of what is really going on and start to learn how to cope. Often when someone is experiencing anxiety their thoughts are focused on the future and they are unable to be present in the here and now, often missing out on what is right in front of them. By zooming out and exploring the situation in the present moment we can separate thoughts from reality and learn to regulate our experience.

In our work together online and in nature I will help you learn tools for emotional regulation, resources for grounding, and gain an understanding of how to recognize anxiety in the body before it takes over. Somatic body awareness, trauma informed interventions, and mindfulness based tools can help to take control of our experience before we feel out of control to our mind.
